A Wall Street Journal video does a good job laying out some of the key issues tied to the work stoppage.

This video features Justin Halpern, WGA Board member and writer-producer on the ABC series Abbott Elementary and Yahlin Chang, Negotiating Committee Member, WGA West, and writer-producer on the Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale.

The lack of data transparency by the streaming services means the WGA has no way of establishing a credible formula to ensure writers are paid residuals they deserve. The scourge of mini-rooms which separates writing and producing responsibilities, when both are in effect writing. The situation on the TV side is just not tenable.

I wish there were more focus on writers who work primarily on feature films…
