Writers for Puerto Rico

An initiative launched by screenwriters Brian Duffield and Liz Hannah starts now today at 10AM PDT!

Two wonderful people and talented screenwriters Brian Duffield and Liz Hannah have launched a campaign for writers to help with the relief effort for Puerto Rico which, as you know, was hammered by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Here is a message from Brian and Liz:

Brian Duffield and Liz Hannah here, coming at you with a request. This Friday (10/27) at 10am PDT, we are launching a social media campaign to raise money for Puerto Rico. Our beneficiary will be United for Puerto Rico, which is an incredible on-the-ground organization where 100% of the proceeds are going towards the victims of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria. We’ve set up a CrowdRise page where everyone has the ability to donate whatever they feel comfortable with. The site takes a nominal processing fee, which donors are prompted to include in their donation before checking out.

So WTF are we doing emailing you? We need your help. Of course we’d love for you to donate, but we also would love for you to reach out to your followers and friends. Spread the good word and get people rallying to support these US CITIZENS whose lives have been viciously devastated.

Why you guys? Because “writer twitter” is an awesome, weird, sometimes infuriating place. But it is also an incredibly supportive group of individuals that both of us truly value. We are a unique family that is often left to our own devices on social media to speak our minds. Now is the opportunity to use those voices, in unison, to give back. As of today, about 75% of residents in Puerto Rico still lack electricity and 25% are without water. Neither is expected to be fully restored for months. Their infrastructure has been destroyed. Food and safe drinking water is hard to come by.

And, they are being neglected by their government.

If you feel like helping — that would be amazing. Also, please forward this to anyone you think will want to help! If you want to use a stock tweet or Facebook message, see the bottom of this email! But also, you guys are writers, so feel free to put any of this in your own words and arbitrate us later for sole credit.
