Tweetstorm: Paul Guyot on Writing Peaks and Valleys

“I go through self-loathing, guilt of being a shitty father, a shitty writer, but I keep getting up. Michael Connelly once told me writing is like the fight in ROCKY — you don’t have to win, but you gotta survive all 15 rounds…”

Paul Guyot has been a writer-producer on several TV series including Judging Amy, Leverage, The Librarians, and NCIS: New Orleans. Recently, he posted a tweetstorm which I thought was worth preserving. Reprinted by permission.

I tell people to be a screenwriter, you have to have an iron gut and a steel spine. The craft is not for the faint of heart. I appreciate Paul’s honesty. It’s tough to acknowledge those down periods when you don’t have a gig.

Let me end this post with two quotes:

“One day, you will sell your screenplay, and then your problems will begin.” — Audrey Wells

“A professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit.” — Richard Bach
