Thanks for your comments, Steven. Your reference to Chinatown is noteworthy about Polanski's version of the story's ending. I'm also reminded of Fatal Attraction's ending which tested horribly. I believe it was the 3rd ending they filmed - where the wife shoots Alex - that finally landed with audiences.
The lesson I took away from the Legacy experience was to embrace that mantra - "There's always another way" - in my writing, especially with a partner. If we couldn't agree on a scene or plot element, we would continue to brainstorm until we came up with something that worked for both of us.
