Sydney, first off, kudos to your professor because I share their passion for character-driven storytelling. In the best of all worlds, an original scripted project combines both a strong story concept and compelling characters. In fact, one of the defining elements of a strong story concept (I would argue) is the implied potential for compelling characters to emerge from the concept’s story situation. That is, as soon as you hear the concept, you can envision characters emerging from the story-crafting process who can grab you emotionally so that you want to go along for the adventure.

In that regard, here is the definition of story that I came up with: A character we care about confronts complex challenges created by a compelling crisis. That was my attempt to do something with a bit of alliteration to make it memorable.

Best of luck with your writing and thanks for sharing those thoughts!
