Who are they?

Steven, curiosity is so important to creating a compelling character. In fact in my Prep workshop — and how I approach my own ‘breaking story’ process — is to ask these question:

  • Who are they?
  • How are they?
  • Why are they?
  • Where are they?

Each question acts like a drill to dig down into the character and determine what’s going on in their psyche. Just in general, I think curiosity is key to character development. Then when working with the character in the page-writing process, to use scenes and incidents in Act One to create questions about them, especially the Protagonist.

So once again, I’m in alignment with you!
