Special Note to European Based Writers!

Upcoming Master Classes with me in London and Cologne!

Over the years, I’ve met hundreds of writers based in Europe through Go Into The Story and Screenwriting Master Class. Now here is an opportunity to work with me in two upcoming events in the U.K. and Germany!

Master Class: The Narrative Imperative in YOUR Screenplay
Where: London Screenwriters’ Festival 2018
When: September 6, 2018 (Thursday), 12:00–6:30PM

Why is the Protagonist the most critical character in your story-crafting process? How can you use their experience in the story, their deep psychology and their past to ramp up the stakes and move your script from ‘pretty good’ to un-put-downable?

The key to unlocking your story’s most powerful version and the underlying structure rests within its most central character: The Protagonist.

Every event that happens, every character who emerges is tied to the Protagonist and their unique psychological journey.

Learn how you can delve into your Protagonist to craft your story’s structure in this masterclass with Scott Myers, screenwriter (K-9, Alaska, Trojan War), professor (DePaul University School of Cinematic Arts), and host of GoIntoTheStory.com, the official screenwriting blog of the Black List.

In addition, I will be giving four presentations at the LSF, Friday through Sunday.

Breaking Story: A Character-Based Approach to Story PrepWhere: Internationale Filmschule, Cologne, Germany
When: October 6–7, 2018 (Saturday-Sunday), 10AM — 4PM

Professional writers in Hollywood never type FADE IN and begin the page-writing part of the script process without first ‘breaking the story’. This prep-writing phase is critically important to the success of any film or TV project. It is where a vast number of narrative elements need to be organized around the core idea of the story. While there are as many different ways to approach story prep as there are writers, this workshop presents a proven professional approach to the story-crafting process.

In this two-day workshop, participants will immerse themselves in a comprehensive approach to story prep: character development, brainstorming techniques and exercises, the story’s physical journey (Plotline) and psychological journey (Themeline), subplots, themes, and more. Writers will learn how to use this systematic process to create a scene-by-scene version of their movie or original TV pilot script. Thus prepared, they will be able to type FADE IN with confidence they will reach FADE OUT with a solid draft of their writing project.

There is an enrollment cap of 25 writers. If you are interested, act soon.

I will also be giving the keynote address at the Film Festival Cologne 2018 on Monday, October 8.

I was invited to the 2017 London Screenwriters’ Festival and here are some comments from writers who attended some of my four presentations:

‘Without a doubt, everything Scott Myers did was as if you could hear the penny dropping in every delegate’s brain throughout his well-reasoned and enabling lectures (plus he does a wicked Anthony ‘Hannibal’ Hopkins voice).’
 —
Stephanie Wessell, Screenwriter

‘Scott’s knowledge, insight, depth, passion, humour and laser sharp delivery was unmatched. Each lecture he gave was rammed to the hilt with ammunition and he gave us FOUR MASTERCLASSES. Good God that was worth the price alone.’
 —
Richard Paul Wheildon, Screenwriter

‘Scott taught me more about writing description than my entire MA did.’
 —
Liz Holliday, Screenwriter

‘The sheer breadth of Scott Myers’ knowledge is amazing, and he knows how to share it in an accessible and reassuring way.’
 —
Carmen Radtke, Screenwriter

‘Scott is fantastic. I was bombarded all afternoon with people saying he was the best speaker they’d ever seen at LSF. I know he’s been invited back. Please make this happen, please!’
 —
Alexis Howell-Jones, Screenwriter

It is exciting to work with writers from all around the world. As I said in this recent tweet:

I look forward to visiting London and Cologne, and sharing in the universal experience which is Story.

I hope you can join me!
