Spec Script Deal: “Weapons”

New Line Cinema acquires horror thriller spec script “Weapons” written by Zack Cregger. Via Deadline:

Word is Universal, Netflix and Sony/TriStar were in the mix, but New Line won because of a guarantee of a theatrical release. The package went out Monday morning. The plot line is under wraps, but the film straddles thriller and horror, on a larger scale.

The story is said to involve witchcraft and missing children.

Cregger, who wrote and directed the hit horror film Barbarian, is attached to direct “Weapons.”

Cregger is repped by CAA and Artists First.

By my count, this is the 1st spec script deal in 2023.
