Spec Script Deal: Untitled Warden Horror Comedy

Universal Pictures acquires untitled Warden horror comedy spec script written by Jimmy Warden. Via Deadline:

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are teaming with Radio Silence, the filmmaking collective behind this summer’s cult hit Ready or Not, for a unique bear-driven horror-comedy — with heart.
— —
Radio Silence — consisting of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella — will shepherd the project, with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett directing and Villella producing.
Logline details are being kept in hibernation, but insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that the project was being pitched as a cross between Good Boys — Universal’s raunchy but sweet feature about three 10-year-olds on an adult adventure — and The Revenant — the Oscar-winning gritty survival tale that starred Leonardo DiCaprio as a fur trapper who, at one point, was mauled by a Grizzly bear.

Horror. Comedy. Bear. With heart. Not necessarily story elements which would jump out at me as spec script material, however, Warden evidently wrote the hell out of the script to get Lord and Miller involved.

Warden is repped by Grandview.

By my count, this is the 32nd spec script deal this year.

There were 39 spec script deals year-to-date in 2018.
