Spec Script Deal: “The Traveler”

MGM acquires science fiction spec script “The Traveler” written by Austin Everett. Via Deadline:

We hear the plot largely is being kept under wraps.

Everett is dual Japanese and American citizen who was born in Japan and grew up in Hawaii. His introduction to the world of film was at age 5 in Tokyo, where he was cast in a recurring role for a NHK drama series. In his teens, he began writing and directing his own short films and fell in love with being behind the camera as a writer-director, not in front.

Last year, Science Fiction topped the spec script deal list in terms of genre. That was the very first time since I’ve been tracking the market. This marks the 4th science fiction spec script deal of 2019, a strong showing in admittedly a slow year.

Everett is repped by Verve and Writ Large.

By my count, this is the 28th spec script deal in 2019.

There were 34 spec script deals year-to-date in 2018.
