Spec Script Deal: “The Throwdown”

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions acquires comedy spec script “The Throwdown” written by Emilia Serrano. Via Variety:

A comedic look at gentrification and the culture clash around food when two Latina American cousins from the Bay Area find themselves fighting over an inherited rundown restaurant and the one thing that originally brought their families together — their late grandfather’s family recipes.

Spec is one of two acquired by Sony from Serrano.

Serrano is repped by ICM Partners and 3 Arts Entertainment.

By my count, this is the 21st spec script deal in 2018.

There were 33 spec script deals year-to-date in 2017.
