Spec Script Deal: “Test Drive”

Twentieth Century Studios acquires action spec script “Test Drive” written by Matt Venne. Via Deadline:

While plot details are under wraps, sources said Venne secured a healthy mid-six against seven figure deal for his script. The spec had no talent or director attachments and caused a stir on the back of its concept and writing alone, in a scenario not too commonly seen these days.

The spec script market continues to heat up just a bit. That is the 7th spec script deal announced in the trades since the start of October. One spec script deal per week is not the boom era of the late 80s and early 90s, but it’s definitely an improvement over the last few years.

Venne is repped by Independent Artist Group and Heroes & Villains Entertainment.

By my count, this is the 22nd spec script deal in 2024.

There were 8 spec script deals year-to-date in 2023.

Note: There was a five-month work stoppage in 2023 which is a key reason why spec deals were so few last year.
