Spec Script Deal: “Mad Rush”

Producer Jorge Garcia Castro (Altered.LA) optioned comedy heist spec script “Mad Rush” written by Manfred Lopez. Details from Lopez:

After a brief period of just wanting to disappear into the proverbial woods, I decided the best thing was to try to get back onto the horse, even if it meant starting over as a screenwriter in my mid 40s. So I poured all my energy into writing an absurdist-heist-comedy called Mad Rush.

It did well in a few contests (Austin, Big Break, Pipeline) and was eventually optioned by one of the guest jurors from the Tracking Board Launch Pad competition, where it reached the Top 25.

The deal was negotiated by my attorney Mikey Glazer, who helped me land a mid six-figure deal. He himself is a producer (Fear Factor), so I got a lot of guidance from him on how to navigate the process. The producer that optioned it is Jorge Garcia Castro. He has produced films staring Sir Michael Caine, Emma Roberts and Katie Holmes, among others. A few days ago he also landed a pilot order from Disney for a superhero action-comedy series.

Logline: Two dueling Vogue interns almost cause the complete collapse of Western Civilization when one of them “borrows” the wrong dress from work.

Deal date: 6/16/2020.

Manfred also informs me that he landed a writing assignment and as a result of that is now a member of the WGA. Congratulations!
