This was my favorite movie coming out of the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Currently with a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this film has everything I look for in a movie: Complex characters. A simple, but compelling plot. Spare, but sophisticated cinematography that never gets in the way of the actors doing what they do best: act. A superb screenplay (it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance) which I can’t wait to read once I get my hands on it. Here’s a trailer.
The movie stars Eva Victor who also wrote and directed the film, a remarkable cinematic debut. Perhaps the most impressive feature of the film is how it balances humor against the backdrop of a dark storyline. Tonally, it reminded me of my favorite movie The Apartment, how one moment you find yourself laughing, the next moment moved with emotion.
Here is a video that happened across my social media feed featuring an interview with Eva Victor.
I don’t want to over-hype Sorry, Baby. It’s a subtle, intimate story, so don’t go to the movie theater expecting spectacle. Rather, sit back and settle into the unique space of the story universe, and let the characters lead you into and through a compelling human drama infused with humor.
Declare Your Independents! It’s up to ME and YOU to support quality indie films when they hit theaters. Sorry, Baby is definitely worth supporting!
