“My agent recently asked me to send him 10 ideas for screenplays in the span of a couple weeks. It seemed like a silly exercise because I’ve probably only had about 10 genuinely viable movie ideas in my whole life. But I ended up really liking the exercise because it reminded me not to be so precious with my ideas. Not everything you write has to be your opus. Sometimes it feels like you have to be incredibly careful choosing your topic because it’s going to dominate your life for so many months, but that can lead to serious procrastination. Story concept is unquestionably important to the success of a finished script, but I think far more concepts would lead to great scripts than we give them credit for.”
