Point well taken, Steven. We DO want to lure a script reader into our ‘movie’ and for reasons you have cited, including a specific song could disrupt a reader’s experience. That is one of many reasons why in general writers should avoid including a recorded song title / lyrics in a spec script.

However, that is *not* a rule, it’s just a convention. So *if* a writer has *THE* perfect song which plays to the story’s central theme (for example) and hits the story’s tone just right, then we have the freedom to include that song. But again, a *very* high bar to to hit to justify that choice.
