The movie version of the opening:

The movie cuts the SUV with gawking teens who flip off Duncan. The interaction with Trent is debilitating enough as it is for the kid. It probably felt like overkill when they were in post, if they shot that footage. As is, it’s a great way to introduce these two key characters and set the stage for Duncan’s journey as a Protagonist figure.
