Page One: ‘The Babadook’ (2014)

This is such good writing. Visceral, visual, and immediately drops the reader into the middle of the story. Sets up a mystery, atmosphere, tone. Clean read, easy on the eyes. Directed on the page w/o camera shots and directing jargon. Just a terrific opening.

Page One is a daily Go Into The Story series featuring the first page of notable movie scripts from the classic era to contemporary times. Comparing them is an excellent way to study a variety of writing styles and see how professional writers start a story.
