This is interesting. A fellow named Tim Gray did the following:

THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT FOR THE FORCE AWAKENS OPENING WAS VERY DIFFERENT TO WHAT FINALLY MADE IT TO THE SCREEN.
USING THE ORIGINAL STORYBOARDS BY J.J. ABRAMS, I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CAPTURE WHAT THIS WOULD LOOK LIKE…

That’s an impressive piece of work by Mr. Gray!
