The movie version of the opening:

The movie adds a framing device: A young boy (Ben Gates) discovers an ancient text in his grandfather’s attic. Discovered by the grandfather (John Adams Gates), the old man sets the story into motion. It’s his voice which provides the voice-over narration (MAN’S VOICE).
