The movie version of the opening:
Considerably different. First, veteran CBS news anchorman Walter Cronkite,. then a house party for the astronauts and their families. The logic? Cronkite provides the historical frame setting the stage for the Apollo 13 mission. And the party? A convenient way to introduce the key characters and put a human face on them.
