Netflix Agrees to Pay Royalties to Creators of German Series
Also Netflix made a recent agreement with Sweden. Yet they won’t make a similar deal with U.S. TV series and writers?

From Variety:
Netflix has agreed to pay creatives in Germany additional royalties based on the success of its local series productions.
The performance-based royalties will be paid to talent working in front and behind the camera on German Netflix series. The payments will be in addition to wages covered by production companies and based on the number of streams made by the series on the platform [emphasis added].
But per the AMPTP counterproposal:
And with respect to transparency, the guild says that “the companies say they have made a major concession by offering to allow six WGA staffers to study limited streaming viewership data for the next three years, so we can return in 2026 to ask once again for a viewership-based residual,” but in the meantime, “no writer can be told by the WGA about how well their project is doing, much less receive a residual based on that data.”
There’s no excuse to wait. Nothing to inhibit the revelation of view numbers because Netflix is already doing it in Germany and Sweden!
Three years. Sure, when the next MBA contract runs out and it’s likely the WGA will be on our own. Right now, we have the most power because we are striking in solidarity with the actors.
This proposal is ridiculous and demeaning.
