My favorite side of dialogue is when the Chef introduces his “masterpiece”:

The S’more: the most offensive

assault on the human palate ever

contrived. Unethically sourced

chocolate and gelatinized sugar

water imprisoned by industrial

grade biscuit. It’s everything

wrong with us and yet we associate

it with innocence. Childhood. Mom

and Dad.

This single side demonstrates how far up his own ass he is. He just got done making a cheeseburger which Margot approved as good with substance (after taking a bite, she says, “Now that is a cheeseburger”). And yet, having come into direct contact with substantial food, the Chef derides S’mores. Despite his critique, the fact is this: They taste great.

The Chef is so close to a human truth … but so far away. Which makes his own self-determined death that much more ironic … and darkly funny.
