That said, because screenplays reflect stories that happen in the present / the moment / the here and now … and movies and TV are primarily visual media … I believe writers can lean into strong verbs and vivid descriptors even more than, say, a novelist or short story writer. As William Goldman said, “A screenplay is not a refrigerator manual.” It’s supposed to be an entertaining read.
