Join me for a writers retreat in Spain!

I’ve been a guest speaker, mentor, and workshop leader all across the United States as well as Canada, England, Germany, France, Switzerland, and Greece.

As of May 2026, I’ll be adding Spain to the list.

Over the last decade, Rocaberti Writers has hosted thirty-three retreats in medieval castles in Spain, Italy and France. Mentors have included Academy and BAFTA Award-winning and nominated writers, filmmakers, and Hollywood producers, as well as literary agents, development executives, and story consultants.

At the May 15th–20th, 2026 event in Girona, Spain, I will work with four writers in an immersive daily workshop environment. In addition, cohort members will have the opportunity to connect with all the mentors (4–5 of them) and other writers (16–20).

A typical day’s program is as follows:

8.00am — 8.30am: Morning meditation (optional), focused on opening our minds and calming our hearts, in order to get the creative juices flowing and focused on our stories.

8.30am — 9.30am: A leisurely breakfast, followed by:

9.30am — 10.30am: Presentation and Q&A discussions with our mentors.

10.30am — 11am: Coffee break.

11am — 1pm: In small groups of 4, you’ll meet with your mentor for two hours, to discuss your project. This is your chance to receive their undivided attention and ask questions about anything related to your writing — from the arc of your story to gaining traction in your writing career to crafting the perfect pitch for an agent or producer.

1pm — 2.30pm: A delicious lunch, al fresco, on the castle’s beautiful terrace, prepared with fresh, local ingredients by the Retreat’s chef.

2pm — 2.30pm: ASK ME A QUESTION: Each day, a different mentor will take your questions on any aspect of the film or writing business.

2.30pm — 3.30pm: Individual sessions with your mentor/free writing time.

3.30pm — 4.30pm: Free writing time.

4.30pm — 5.30pm: ‘Pitch to the Expert’: each day a small group of writers will take their turn pitching their project to the mentors, receiving valuable feedback on this stage of the process.

5.30pm — 7.30pm: Uninterrupted free time in the afternoon to go for a walk in the castle grounds, take a dip in the pool or simply write, take a siesta or chat with fellow mentors and writers.

Then, we’ll meet for dinner prepared by our private chef, followed by a talk and then Q & A with a different mentor each day on a film or TV project which they’ve been involved with. We’ll also be tasting some of the delicious local wines!

In other words, this is not a “quiet” retreat, rather it is a writing intensive which will enlighten you about your story’s untapped potential and empower you to return home ready to pound out a winning draft.

All this within the inspiring environment of a Spanish castle.

Sant Mori Castle, Figueres

This impressive 15th century castle-mansion, also known as the Rocaberti Castle, has belonged to the same family for the past 600 years.

Surrounded by rolling hills and the snow-topped Pyrenees in the distance, Sant Mori has borne witness to several historical moments, the most important being the stay of Queen Juana Enriquez and her son Fernando, who sponsored the voyage made by Christopher Columbus to discover the Americas.

It nestles in the sleepy village of Sant Mori, just twenty minutes from Figueres, the home of world-renowned Spanish artist, Salvador Dalí.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO APPLY

- Supply a brief synopsis of your project (up to 500 words).

- A statement (up to 300 words) about what you’re hoping to gain from the retreat and why you’re hoping to be mentored by me (Scott Myers).

Submissions will be considered on a rolling basis and the final deadline for submitting is by May 31st, 2025.

In your application, if you mention you follow Go Into The Story and are selected for the retreat, you will qualify for a special 1,500 euros discount (6495 euros, to 4995 euros).

Amenities include five nights lodging at the castle, all meals and drinks during your stay, round-trip transportation between the local train station and the castle, and more.

Over the years, I have led 100s of writing workshops … but never one in a castle and what promises to be a unique experience.
