“It’s a Wonderful Life”: Minute by Minute Breakdown

A podcast analysis with MovieRob and me about the dramatic George-Mary phone call.

Since July 2021, a true cinephile known as MovieRob has hosted a podcast where he analyzes movies minute by minute. Quite literally going through a movie and spending a half-hour or so on each minute of screen time.

It’s a cool concept, so when Rob reached out to me to join him to analyze the movie It’s a Wonderful Life, I jumped at the opportunity.

Rob asked me what five-minute sequence I’d like to discuss. I immediately responded: The George-Mary phone call with Sam Wainwright.

Why? Lots of reasons which Rob and I get into in our extended analysis which you can hear via the links below.

Minute 46: Universal Point of Appeal

Minute 47: Maelstrom of Stuff

Minute 48: Tricky Shapeshifting

Minute 49: Confused and Distracted

Minute 50: Track the Script

Even though I’ve seen the movie at least ten times, I learned even more about the film through my conversation with Rob.
