Interview (Video): Paddy Chayefsky

Rare video of the three-time Oscar winner from January 1969.

In the ranks of screenwriters, Paddy Chayefsky is a giant. The only screenwriter to have three solo Academy Awards — for Marty (1955), The Hospital (1971), and Network (1976) — Chayefsky was also a successful playwright and television dramatist.

Here is some rare video of Chayefsky as a guest on “The Mike Douglas Show” from 1969. Other guests on that show: Jack Lord and Lionel Hampton.

The videos offer a taste of Chayefsky’s basic cynicism about humankind as well as his brilliant mind… while wearing an Hawaiian lei!
