A conversation with the co-writer of the original Top Gun movie and other hit movies including The Secret of My Success and Turner & Hootch.
This is the latest in a series of excellent interview videos from Indie Film Hustle: Jack Epps Jr. is a screenwriter, whose credits include Legal Eagles, The Secret of My Success, Turner & Hootch, Dick Tracy, and Anaconda. He is also an associate professor at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts where he is chair of the Writing for Screen and Television division. Epps, along with longtime writing partner Jim Cash, co-wrote the iconic 80s movie Top Gun and is credited with a Based on Characters Created By credit on the recent sequel Top Gun: Maverick.
Epps wrote “Screenwriting is Rewriting: The Art and Craft of Professional Revision” and you can read my extended interview with him about the book and his career here.
Also in 2017, I had the pleasure of moderating an interview with Epps and another “top gun” in the contemporary screenwriting trade Stephen E. de Souza. You may watch that conversation here.
