Interview (Video): Gina Prince-Bythewood

In association with the Austin Film Festival and KLRU-TV, the PBS series “On Story” is a must for anybody interested in screenwriting, movies, and/or TV. This week, the series debuted its 11th season with writer-director-producer Gina Prince-Bythewood, whose credits include Love & Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees, and The Old Guard.

Quote: “I absolutely take pride in creating characters. It’s so much a part of the writing process. For me, once I have the idea of what I want to write, the story, the themes, then it’s about characters. I spend so much time on every single character. For me, it’s about making them real. Because when they’re real, then they start to talk to me as I’m writing. It’s a very cool thing getting into that flow.”
