Captain Marvel is projected to hit the $100M mark in domestic box office when it opens the weekend of March 8th in North America. Here is a brief Get Your Comic On interview with co-writers (along with Geneva Robertson-Dworet) and co-directors Anna Bowden and Ryan Fleck.

I thought this observation by Fleck was interesting:

“We were aware Marvel was making some bold hiring decisions before us, so we knew that Taika [Waititi] was doing the Thor movie and Ryan Coogler was going to do Black Panther. These are filmmakers we consider our peers and they come from indie filmmaking, very character-based storytelling, so when we heard they were hiring guys like that, our interest was really stirred. And we were like, ‘You know what, this is cool. These guys aren’t just after the big spectacle, the big explosion.’ Yeah, that stuff is in the movie, but they’re really after something character, after something more complicated. We hoped they would embrace that when we came on board.” [emphasis added]

As tepid as my feelings are toward the glut of superhero movies, I would go see Captain Marvel because I’m a huge fan of Brie Larson. But hearing these comments makes me even more enthusiastic to watch the film because of that word: character. Spectacle and explosions mean NOTHING without compelling characters.

Interesting to note of the five credited writers (Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve have a story by credit), four are women.

Here is a trailer and a few clips from the movie:
