Hollywood Tales

“Virginia. 1990. I’m thirty-five years old, married with two very young kids. No one’s asking, but I get an idea for a love story where the two main characters don’t even meet until the very last scene — but that when they do, it’s on top of the Empire State Building, on Valentine’s Day. I call it Sleepless in Seattle and I know it’s going to be a monster. I can feel it.

Every single person I tell this to says that I’m out of my mind. ‘That’s not how you do love stories,’ they say. ‘You do them this way.’ And, ‘What kind of title is that?’”
