Great Scene: “Duck Soup”

As much of a fan of movies as I am, I’m still shocked to remember that it wasn’t until I was in college that I saw a Marx Bros. movie for the first time. It was a double feature: The Cocoanuts (1929) and Duck Soup (1933). I’m not sure I’ve ever laughed so hard as that night.

One of the great scenes I remember is the famous mirror scene in Duck Soup. The writing credits are Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby for “story,” and Arthur Sheekman and Nat Perrin (who worked on many Marx Bros. movies) for “additional dialogue” — but this scene is all Groucho and Harpo. Sorry, no script available online. Enjoy!
