Great comments, Tara. I’ve updated the OP to include a link to the original New York magazine article upon which the movie is based. Your observations in that regard are interesting, how the writer-director shifted the focus away from the journalist’s relationships with the girls.

I also think your comparison to Uncut Gems is an apt one. The separation between the Haves and the Have Nots, or, too, the Shrinking Middle Class is reflected in a lot of storytelling nowadays. The struggle to survive and the dream to thrive.
