“Give me back my rabbit’s foot. I got too much to do around here to go around saving your life all the time.”

Places in the Heart (1984), written by Robert Benton

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Farm.

Trivia: The only Best Picture Oscar nominee of the year to be also nominated for Original Screenplay.

Dialogue On Dialogue: I have always had an affection for this movie because it mimics my own mother’s experience growing up in the central Texas farming community in the 20s and 30s. The belief that rocking a rocking chair with no one sitting in it being bad luck? My mother believed that. Takeaway: Whenever we write a period piece, do due diligence with your research. If you can find bits of business like this one with the rocking chair, you add a sense of verisimilitude to your story.
