“Donnie. An atheist is someone who denies altogether the existence of God. You’re an agnostic. An agnostic is someone who believes that there can be no proof of the existence of God, but does not deny a possibility that God exists.”
— Donnie Darko (2001), written by Richard Kelly
The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Therapy, suggested by Gisela Wehrl.
Trivia: Richard Kelly said that the movie had a very difficult time finding a U.S. distributor. Since the film embodied a myriad of genres and tones, distributors were confused by the movie’s message, and how to market it. Additionally, Kelly also claims that “Darko” was very close to premiering on the Starz network, until Newmarket Films picked up the film for theatrical distribution.
Dialogue On Dialogue: The therapy sessions in this movie are significant in that they provide a window into Donnie’s soul.
