— Parenthood (1989), screenplay by Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel, story by Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel & Ron Howard
The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Celebration.
Trivia: As originally written, Karen would smoke a joint of marijuana every night. Mary Steenburgen argued that this was out of character for a woman strong enough to confront her family’s problems head on. The filmmakers agreed and changed the script.
Dialogue On Dialogue: Gil has lived his entire life as a parent concerned about his son Kevin, who while a sweet kid, just can’t seem to get things right. Branded a loser by his teammates and stuck in right field, here he makes a miraculous catch, and his father responds with super-abundant enthusiasm and a crazy little dance.
