“They don’t give a damn for you, not your wife, not the priest, none of your friends, they’d let me blow your head off… for fermented juice.”
— The Secret of Santa Vittoria (1969), screenplay by William Rose and Ben Maddow, novel by Robert Crichton
The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Wine.
Trivia: The secret, as in this movie’s title, The Secret of Santa Vittoria, was that Italian villagers during Nazi German occupied Italy during World War II were able to keep secret from them one million bottles of wine which were hidden underground.
Dialogue On Dialogue: The German officer raises a fair point. Why would someone be willing to risk their life to protect “fermented juice?” It speaks to the power of wine especially in this movie where it defines the essence of this Italian village.
