Daily Dialogue — May 30, 2019

Iris: God, you’re square.
Travis Bickle: Hey, I’m not square, you’re the one that’s square. You’re full of shit, man. What are you talking about? You walk out with those fuckin’ creeps and low-lifes and degenerates out on the streets and you sell your little pussy for peanuts? For some low-life pimp who stands in the hall? And I’m square? You’re the one that’s square, man. I don’t go screwing with a bunch of killers and junkies like you do. You call that bein’ hip? What world are you from?

Taxi Driver (1976), written by Paul Schrader

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Diner. Today’s suggestion by @brojohnrusso.

Trivia: The only camera direction that Paul Schrader wrote in the script was the overhead tracking shot after the bloody shoot-out.

Dialogue On Dialogue: There are four diner scenes in Taxi Driver. Two with Travis and a group of other taxi drivers, one with Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) and Betsy (Cybill Shepherd), and this one featuring Iris (Jodi Foster) and Travis. Which means there’s a lot of character and plot development taking place in these type settings.
