Daily Dialogue —March 31, 2020

Woo: Put your diapers on, Lebowski. Jackie Treehorn wants to see you.
Blond: Jackie Treehorn knows which Lebowski you are, Lebowski.
Woo: Jackie Treehorn wants to see the deadbeat Lebowski.
Blond: You’re not dealing with morons here.

The Big Lebowski (1998), written by Ethan Coen, Joel Coen

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Door.

Trivia: When they started writing the script, the Coens wrote only forty pages and then let it sit for a while before finishing it. This is a normal writing process for them, because they often “encounter a problem at a certain stage, we pass to another project, then we come back to the first script. That way we’ve already accumulated pieces for several future movies.”

Dialogue On Dialogue: The great thing about this scene is not the dialogue by Woo and Blond, but Lebowski’s flummoxed reaction to the fact his plan to blockade the door didn’t quite work out.
