“You’re looking at eons of repression getting purged. If only they’d let us jerk off.”
— Dogma (1999), written by Kevin Smith
The Daily Dialogue theme for the week: Angel.
Trivia: Smith originally wrote a draft of the film in the early 1990s, and planned on shooting it after Clerks (1994), hence the inclusion of that movie’s end credits: “Jay and Silent Bob will return in Dogma (1999)”. However, he found himself unhappy with the early version of the script, and decided instead to not pursue the project until he became a better filmmaker.
Dialogue On Dialogue: If you’re not familiar with the film, here is a plot summary: “An abortion clinic worker with a special heritage is enlisted to prevent two angels from reentering Heaven and thus undoing the fabric of the universe. Along the way, she is aided by two prophets, Jay and Silent Bob. With the help of Rufus, the 13th Apostle, they must stop those who stand in their way and prevent the angels from entering Heaven.” Matt Damon plays one of the angels (Loki) and Ben Affleck the other (Bartleby).
