Courier 12 Screenwriting Conference

One-day event in Chicago which will be live-streamed on YouTube.

A message from the good folks at the DePaul University School of Cinematic Arts… including me!

Entertainers, producers and screenwriters will join the DePaul University School of Cinematic Arts for the annual Courier 12 Screenwriting Conference. Held on DePaul’s Loop Campus, Courier 12 is the premier Midwest screenwriting event and will feature panel discussions from leading writing talent in the entertainment industry.

The conference will take place Saturday, Sept. 28, 12:00–7:00 p.m. in DePaul’s Daley Building, 247 S. State St. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Panels include:

12:00 PM — SHARKNADOS, ZOMBIES & DOOMSDAY: David Michael Latt, co-founder of The Asylum, will discuss how new writers can break into writing low budget genre (horror, scifi, action, thriller).

1:30 PM — WEB SERIES & INTERSECTIONAL TELEVISION: OTV Head of Production (and DePaul alumnus) Stephanie Jeter, and Kissing Walls creator Zak Payne for a discussion on the current web series landscape.

3:00 PM — THAT’S NOT FUNNY: Producer Trevor Albert (Groundhog Day) and Second City alums discuss the current state of comedy.

4:30 PM — BREAKING INTO THE WRITERS’ ROOM: TV writers Michael Gemballa (SWAT) and Teresa Huang (SEAL TEAM) share their journey from being accepted into the CBS Writers Mentorship Program to getting staffed on a successful network television series.

6:00PM — SPEC SCRIPT TO OSCARS: Screenwriters David Rabinowitz and Charlie Wachtel share the story behind the story for the award-winning 2018 movie BlacKkKlansman (directed by Spike Lee) for which the pair won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
