Austin, I’m at heart a perfectionist, so I can related to your quandary. Screenwriting has taught me not to be so precious, especially with a first draft. Muscle draft. Vomit draft. Zero draft. Just get the story down as best you can, then rewrite.
Indeed, I encourage my students and writer clients not to think so much when they take a first pass at a scene, but rather get in touch with the characters and feel their way into and through the initial draft.
Good luck!
