A Go Into The Story deep dive into every annual Black List since 2013.
A Go Into The Story deep dive into every annual Black List since 2013.
Go Into The Story has been the official screenwriting blog of the Black List since 2010. Beginning in 2013, I started tracking the roll-out of the annual List each December. Accompanying that a day or two later, I post a detailed analysis of that year’s List. I thought it would be both helpful to aggregate links to each of those articles. Here they are:
2013
2014
2015
2016
2017
2018
2019
2020
2021
2022
It’s actually interesting to see various trends emerge over time. Two of the most notable ones: The increase in both the number of historically-based projects and scripts featuring female leads.
To learn more about the Black List, you can watch this in-depth interview with its founder and CEO Franklin Leonard.
Note: Apart from a small stipend I receive when working as a mentor and workshop facilitator with their feature writer labs, I do not get paid by the Black List. This was something I stipulated when I agreed to partner my blog with the Black List, so I could maintain my editorial independence.
That said, I support the Black List in creating new avenues for writers to break into the Hollywood film and television business. That is very much in keeping with one of the guiding principles which I have had for this blog since I launched it in May 2008, my focus being on educating writers about the craft and business of screenwriting.
Look for my interviews with at least ten 2022 Black List screenwriters in the upcoming weeks and months.
