This is the 11th year in a row I’ve run this series in April. Why a story idea each day for the month? Because the best way to come up with a great story idea is to come up with a lot of ideas. And the best way to come up with a lot of ideas is to be proactive in sourcing story ideas.
Today’s story: A Cop Skilled in Tracking Mobsters Is Now Focused on the Coronavirus.
Police Superintendent Ævar Pálmi Pálmason usually tracks mobsters. Since late February, he has been on the trail of people who may be infected with the new coronavirus.
The rest of the story is behind the Wall Street Journal paywall, but I don’t need to see anything more for a story concept and here it is.
Zorna Holmsby is a cynical Los Angeles police detective in the year 2030. She’s seen it all… done it all… and is sick of it all.
Then some weird shit happens.
Someone or something is infecting humans transforming them mindless killing machines. The infected can’t transmit the disease to others, but they can create a boatload of mayhem as they become wild destroyers of everything and everyone in their sight.
Zorna’s task is not only to stop the chaos created by the infected, but also track down Agent Orange, the name given the entity infecting humans (because it turns the victims’ skin orange), to stop the madness from growing any further.
Title: Agent Orange. Genre: Action Horror.

Each day in April, I invite you to join me in comments to do some brainstorming. Take each day’s story idea and see what it can become when we play around with it. These are valuable skills for a writer to develop.
See you in RESPONSES to hear YOUR take on this story idea. And come back tomorrow for another Story Idea Each Day For A Month.
