A Story Idea Each Day for a Month — Day 11
This is the 15th year in a row I’ve run this series in April.
This is the 15th year in a row I’ve run this series in April.
Today’s story idea: “‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ Star Karen Huger Sentenced to One Year in Jail for DUI.”
Karen Huger, one of the most well-known faces from The Real Housewives of Potomac, has been sentenced to one year in jail following her DUI arrest in March 2024.
The Montgomery County judge overseeing the case handed down a two-year sentence, with one year suspended, along with a one-year driving ban after her release and five years of probation.
The Crash That Led to Her Arrest
On March 19, 2024, Huger crashed her Maserati into a pole in Potomac, Maryland. Police bodycam footage from the night of the incident — later shown on Bravo — revealed Huger slurring her words and discussing RHOP and Andy Cohen with the arresting officers, who appeared unimpressed.
She was found guilty in December on five of six charges, including DUI and negligent driving, but was acquitted of reckless driving.
Imagine a super popular fictional reality TV series in the vein of Real Housewives.
Imagine the most self-absorbed, egotistical, and outlandish member of the cast who is famous for throwing tantrums over any perceived slight.
Now imagine this prima dona getting busted for a DUI and sentenced to six-months in prison.
Here she is, “Queen Sheba” as she is known, surrounded by female prisoners. Some are fans of her TV series. Some are jealous of her fame. Some just want to mess her up.
It’s a tough transition for Queen who is used to a life where her every need is immediately filled.
From the point in the story where she’s sentenced to prison (Act One midpoint) to through the first few sequences of Act Two Part A, Queen is on her heels and scrambling to survive.
Then she gets an idea: Pitch a new TV series called The Real Ladies of Carswell FDC (Federal Detention Center).
What if the network laps it up? And voila, the show becomes a huge hit. It’s Orange is the New Black only it’s real … well, as real as reality TV can be. With Queen Sheba in the lead role, she eventually discovers a new purpose in life along with her fellow prisoners.
There’s my 11th story idea this month. What would you do with this concept?

Each day in April, I invite you to join me in comments to do some brainstorming. Take each day’s story idea and see what it can become when we play around with it. These are valuable skills for a writer to develop.
See you in RESPONSES to hear YOUR take on this story idea. And come back tomorrow for another Story Idea Each Day For A Month.
