Over the years, my blog has found fans all over the world. On occasion, my travels have taken me to their countries. For example in 2019, I conducted a three-day master class in Paris. That gave me an opportunity to connect with some friends I had met through social media including the fine folks a the Guilde Française des Scénaristes.
En mars 2018, quand j’étais conseiller cinéma au sein du CA de la Guilde Française des Scénaristes, j’ai contacté le scénariste et prof d’écriture Scott Myers, qui gère le Blog de la Blacklist américaine (très bon article de Jacky Goldberg sur la blacklist ici). Scott a accepté que je sélectionne et traduise (avec l’aide d’amis scénaristes pour les 20 premiers conseils) ses meilleurs posts à destination des jeunes scénaristes non-anglophones. Voici donc les 40 conseils de Scott Myers. Si vous voulez mieux comprendre ce qu’est l’artisanat du scénario, lisez les, vous ne serez pas déçu. Scott est venu à Paris peu après, on a enregistré un épisode de secrets de scénariste. Très bon souvenir de la fête qui a suivi, quelques photos ici.

In March 2018, when I was a cinema advisor on the board of the Guilde Française des Scénaristes, I contacted the screenwriter and writing teacher Scott Myers, who manages the American Blacklist Blog (very good article by Jacky Goldberg on the blacklist here). Scott agreed that I select and translate (with the help of fellow screenwriters for the first 20 tips) his best posts for young non-English speaking screenwriters. Here are 40 tips from Scott Myers. French cinema is the home to the auteur theory in which a movie’s director is consider its “author” and as a result, screenwriters in France have struggled to gain an equivalent position as creative talent. The French Screenwriters Guild has as part of its mission to change that perception and generate more opportunities for writers to ply their trade in their home country.
