One month. FADE IN to FADE OUT. Creativity meets Productivity.

Zero Draft Thirty: Day 6.

Write an entire draft of a script in September — FADE IN. FADE OUT. Or any sort of creative goal you have in front of you.

Feature length movie screenplay. Original TV pilot. Rewrite a current project. Break a story in prep. Generate a month’s worth of story concepts.

Whatever you feel will ratchet your creative ambitions into overdrive…

DO THAT!

As for me, I will spend the month rewriting a feature film comedy spec script. I’m spending most of the month working out my revision plan, then heading off for an extended writer’s retreat to knock out this draft.

If you join the Challenge, I will be right there with you writing each and every day in March! Let’s do this together!

Today’s Writing Quote

“Almost any story becomes a visual enactment of the psychological dilemmas faced by the lead character.”

From The Lonely Island:

Hey, why not YOU! Finish that script! Sell it for high-six figures! It happened to me! It could happen to you!

Today’s Daily Dialogue Video

I have dedicated the 2025 Zero Draft Thirty March Challenge to memorable movie dialogue. Today: The Grapes of Wrath.

It was dark times in the United States when The Grapes of Wrath was released to theaters in 1940, the country emerging from a depression and on the brink of World War II. Maybe this dialogue is more about the dark times our country is facing now.

But there’s also this: In times like these, we need stories. To entertain. To inspire. To challenge.

Image the story you’re currently writing. Whatever the genre, write the hell out of it. There’s an audience waiting for it … and for you.

Today’s Dalton Trumbo Award winner: Lynnaire MacDonald.

Over at the Zero Draft Thirty Facebook group, Lynnaire wrote this:

Good for you, Lynnaire! You fought through perhaps the most challenging hurdle for a writer to confront: I’m tired.

Here’s the thing: Sometimes, the very best time to write is precisely when you are tired. Your conscious defenses are down. Your subconscious can bubble up into your fingers on keyboard resulting in surprising dialogue … unexpected action … character revelations.

You did it, Lynnaire! As a result, you felt invigorated, had a better creative flow experience.

Hopefully, your example will inspire others to plow through their state of being tired … and tap into their own subconscious.

Therefore, the recipient of today’s Dalton Trumbo Award is Lynnaire MacDonald!

Congratulations, Lynnaire!
