2025 Zero Draft Thirty March Challenge: Day 24
Zero Draft Thirty: Day 24.
Zero Draft Thirty: Day 24.
Write an entire draft of a script in September — FADE IN. FADE OUT. Or any sort of creative goal you have in front of you.
Feature length movie screenplay. Original TV pilot. Rewrite a current project. Break a story in prep. Generate a month’s worth of story concepts.
Whatever you feel will ratchet your creative ambitions into overdrive…
DO THAT!
As for me, I will spend the month rewriting a feature film spec script. It’s based on a story concept I came up with late last year and it may be the strongest comedy idea I’ve ever worked on. Now to take it to the next level.
If you join the Challenge, I will be right there with you writing each and every day in March! Let’s do this together!

Today’s Writing Quote
“Just have good characters and good scenes and something that plays.”
— Billy Wilder

The late great L.A. Dodger broadcaster Vin Scully calls this epic home run by Kirk Gibson. Amazing moment. Amazing job by Scully.
Today’s Daily Dialogue Inspiration
I have dedicated the 2025 Zero Draft Thirty March Challenge to memorable movie dialogue. Today: A League of Their Own.

“The hard is what makes it great.” That’s the line most people remember from this exchange. True. But I like the preceding line: “If it wasn’t hard everyone would do it.”
I’ve been at this craft of screenwriting for nearly four decades. At times, it’s felt like folks had exchanged the dream of writing the Great American Novel to the Great American Screenplay.
Here’s the thing. The line should read: “everyone would try to do it.”
Go to any coffee shop in Los Angeles. Look at what everyone is doing on their laptop. Almost all screenwriting.
But this is what we’ve chosen. And it is hard. The competition. Learning the craft. The constant grind of watching movies, reading scripts, writing pages. Endless rewriting. Not a moment where we don’t wonder, “Is that a good idea for a screenplay?”
But it’s hard because you have to really want it. I mean REALLY! And the hard becomes your ally in sorting the wheat from the chaff.
So, yes, it’s hard. And yes, it seems like everyone is doing it.
None of that matters.
What matters if you meeting the hard … and using that spur you to go at it more … deeper … and more intensely.
And you do it … because you’re a screenwriter.
