2025 Zero Draft Thirty March Challenge: Day 22
One month. FADE IN to FADE OUT. Creativity meets Productivity.
One month. FADE IN to FADE OUT. Creativity meets Productivity.
Zero Draft Thirty: Day 22.
Write an entire draft of a script in September — FADE IN. FADE OUT. Or any sort of creative goal you have in front of you.
Feature length movie screenplay. Original TV pilot. Rewrite a current project. Break a story in prep. Generate a month’s worth of story concepts.
Whatever you feel will ratchet your creative ambitions into overdrive…
DO THAT!
As for me, I will spend the month rewriting a feature film spec script. It’s based on a story concept I came up with late last year and it may be the strongest comedy idea I’ve ever worked on. Now to take it to the next level.
If you join the Challenge, I will be right there with you writing each and every day in March! Let’s do this together!

Today’s Writing Quote
“Forget every rule Syd Field, Robert McKee or any other screenwriting guru ever taught you. Except one: Never be boring.”
— David Mamet
Today’s Inspirational Video
A favorite scene from one of my favorite movies: Singin’ in the Rain. And the whole point of this sequence is about finding inspiration when things aren’t going your way. But the physical gyrations of Donald O’Connor… amazing!
Today’s Daily Dialogue Inspiration
I have dedicated the 2025 Zero Draft Thirty March Challenge to memorable movie dialogue. Today: The Untouchables.

You’re at a coffee shop in Los Angeles. You look around. Everyone has their laptop open. Everyone has Final Draft open.
That’s right. Everyone is writing a screenplay.
In Untouchables language, that’s the equivalent of bringing a knife to the writing competition.
What are you going to do to respond?
How are you going to be a slice of deep dish Chicago Way to YOUR writing?
I’ll tell you what. You’re going to write in that coffee shop and only write. No breaks for email. No TikTok videos. You’re going to hammer your keyboard so loud, one by one, your competitors are going to notice … and get unsettled by this frenzied writer pounding out pages.
Then you’re going to go home. And you’re going to write some more. In fact, you may pull a freaking all-nighter.
Because when YOU are writing … and they AREN’T … you’re getting a leg up on the competition.
That’s the Chicago Way!
