One month. FADE IN to FADE OUT. Creativity meets Productivity.

Zero Draft Thirty: Day 20.

Write an entire draft of a script in September — FADE IN. FADE OUT. Or any sort of creative goal you have in front of you.

Feature length movie screenplay. Original TV pilot. Rewrite a current project. Break a story in prep. Generate a month’s worth of story concepts.

Whatever you feel will ratchet your creative ambitions into overdrive…

DO THAT!

As for me, I will spend the month rewriting a feature film spec script. It’s based on a story concept I came up with late last year and it may be the strongest comedy idea I’ve ever worked on. Now to take it to the next level.

If you join the Challenge, I will be right there with you writing each and every day in March! Let’s do this together!

Today’s Writing Quote

“Show up, show up, show up, and after a while the muse shows up, too.”

Today’s Daily Dialogue Inspiration

I have dedicated the 2025 Zero Draft Thirty March Challenge to memorable movie dialogue. Today: Meet the Parents.

The prayer is not in the script I have, but here’s a transcript:

O dear God, thank you. You are such a good God to us. A kind and gentle and accommodating God. And we thank You O sweet, sweet Lord of hosts for the smörgåsbord You have so aptly lain at our table this day, and each day… by day. Day by day… by day. O dear Lord, three things we pray: To love Thee more dearly, to see Thee more clearly, to follow Thee more nearly day by day… by day. Amen.

Of course, the last few lines are from a song from the musical Godspell.

Here is the song’s refrain:

Day by day
Day by day
Oh Dear Lord
Three things I pray
To see thee more clearly
Love thee more dearly
Follow thee more nearly
Day by day

So our inspiration today? Sometimes when the writing isn’t happening and the spirit moves us … there’s always prayer.

“The highest kind of writing belongs to the realm of grace. You may happen upon it without realizing this is the work through which your whole life will sing. We should always be ready, be humble. Creativity should always be a form of prayer.” — Ben Okri

Or simply get quiet and pray for inspiration.

“I sit in the dark and wait for a little flame to appear at the end of my pencil.” — Billy Collins
